Artisan Electrician – Mining Operations

About the role

The Artisan Electrician will ensure the continuous availability, reliability and safety of the mine’s primary electrical infrastructure. You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot faults and carry out repairs on critical power distribution systems.

Key responsibilities

• Execute scheduled and emergency maintenance on heavy‑duty electrical equipment such as submersible pumps, chlorinators, mixers and filtration motors.
• Maintain transformers, switchgears, variable frequency drives (VFDs) and low‑to‑medium voltage supply networks feeding the plant.
• Install new electrical apparatus, propose reliability improvements and record activities in plant logs.
• Erect, tension and string overhead conductors; install transformers, drop‑out fuses and insulators on wooden poles or steel towers.
• Conduct structural inspections of poles, cross‑arms and line hardware, replacing deteriorated components.
• Troubleshoot line faults, repair or replace damaged conductors and safely reroute power to minimise downtime.

Required profile

• National Craft Certificate in Electrical and Electronics or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mining electrical engineering.
• Demonstrated knowledge of overhead lines and borehole installations.

Required skills

• Electrical maintenance and preventive maintenance.
• Installation and commissioning of transformers and switchgear.
• Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) operation.
• Overhead line erection and conductor stringing.
• Troubleshooting of high‑voltage and low‑voltage systems.
• Structural inspection of electrical poles and hardware.
