Artisan Rigger – Mechanical Maintenance Specialist

About the role

The Artisan Rigger is responsible for maintaining and operating lifting and rigging equipment across all MMG Khoemacau mining sites. Working under the Mechanical Engineer, the role ensures plant availability and reliability to meet production targets while complying with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect lifting equipment, rigging gear and tools before use and remove defective items from service.
• Plan, execute and supervise lifting and rigging operations in line with approved lift plans, risk assessments and statutory requirements.
• Select and configure appropriate lifting equipment for each task, ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications and manufacturer guidelines.
• Guide and signal crane operators to guarantee safe and controlled lifts.
• Complete job cards, inspection records and lifting documentation accurately and promptly.
• Identify unsafe conditions during operations and implement corrective measures.
• Provide on‑the‑job coaching to assistants and junior personnel.
• Coordinate with maintenance, operations and engineering teams to minimise disruptions.

Required profile

• National Craft Certificate in Rigging or equivalent.
• Minimum five years post‑qualification experience delivering rigging and crane services for mobile and fixed plant maintenance in a mining or heavy‑industrial environment.
• Successful completion of an Artisan in Development Programme is an advantage.
