Communications and External Relations Officer

About the role

The Communications and External Relations Officer will join the Eastern and Southern Africa team of the World Bank Group. Based in Gaborone, the role supports the Bank’s mission to promote development by shaping stakeholder understanding and enhancing the institution’s reputation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage strategic communications across the seven World Bank regions, aligning local efforts with global strategy.
• Build support and understanding for World Bank priorities among media, civil society, private sector, donor countries and international organisations.
• Enhance and protect the Bank’s reputation as a leading development organization.
• Support operational effectiveness and social accountability by sharing development progress, knowledge and results.
• Utilise innovative engagement strategies, traditional and digital tools, including social media and artificial intelligence, to shape development debates.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in communications, external relations or stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to work in a dynamic, multi‑regional environment.
• Fluency in English and Setswana.
• Located in or willing to relocate to Gaborone, Botswana.
