About the role
The Control & Instrumentation Technician will ensure safe, efficient and continuous operation of automated water‑service systems. You will install, calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot sensors, meters and control equipment across boreholes, water plants and sewage treatment facilities.
Key responsibilities
- Understand and manage distributed telemetry networks (UHF/VHF, GSM/GPRS, Satellite/VSAT) for remote data transmission.
- Configure and troubleshoot SCADA interfaces such as Citect, Siemens WinCC or Wonderware to monitor water levels, flows and pump status.
- Calibrate and maintain pressure transmitters, ultrasonic and radar level sensors for static and dynamic water level measurement.
- Service electromagnetic flow‑meters and ultrasonic meters to verify extraction and discharge volumes.
- Maintain water‑quality sensors (electrical conductivity, pH, turbidity) before water enters processing plants.
- Program, troubleshoot and modify PLC logic (Siemens S7, Allen‑Bradley, Schneider) for automated pump control.
- Set up, configure and troubleshoot Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) for energy‑efficient motor operation.
- Manage telemetry control panels, solar power arrays and local step‑down transformers supplying remote sites.
Required profile
- Diploma in Control & Instrumentation, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a National Craft Certificate in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience with water reticulation, boreholes, sewage treatment and water‑plant operations.
- Knowledge of the Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Act and the Mines and Minerals Act.
- Proven project‑management experience.
