Data Protection Officer

About the role

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) is a part‑time, hybrid position that combines on‑site collaboration with the flexibility to work from home. The DPO will oversee data privacy and protection practices across the Colleagues AI Workspace platform, ensuring that personal and sensitive information is collected, processed, stored and shared in compliance with Botswana data protection laws and the company’s internal policies.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor developments in Botswana’s data protection regulations and advise product and engineering teams on privacy‑by‑design and privacy‑by‑default principles.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments and review data processing agreements for the AI Workspace platform.
• Handle privacy inquiries, manage incident and breach response processes, and maintain comprehensive documentation of compliance activities.
• Provide training to Colleagues AI staff on data protection principles and promote a culture of ethical data use.

Required profile

• Strong expertise in data privacy, privacy compliance and privacy policies, with a proven ability to design and maintain robust data protection frameworks.
• Solid understanding of Botswana’s regulatory compliance and data protection law, especially as it applies to AI and digital workspaces.
• Experience applying privacy‑by‑design principles within software, AI or SaaS products and conducting risk and impact assessments.
• Excellent analytical, documentation and communication skills, capable of explaining complex privacy issues in clear language.
• Relevant academic background in law, information security, data protection or a related field; registration with Botswana data authorities is an advantage.
