General Engineering Supervisor

About the role

The General Engineering Supervisor leads mechanical engineering maintenance across a processing plant, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operation of all equipment. This senior position provides technical direction to foremen and maintenance teams while aligning maintenance activities with production needs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Mechanical Foremen and maintenance crews, providing technical oversight and guidance.
• Plan and coordinate daily, weekly and major maintenance activities, including shutdowns and overhauls.
• Align maintenance priorities with production schedules, equipment condition and operational risk.
• Monitor plant availability, reliability and maintenance performance, driving corrective actions as needed.
• Ensure preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance are performed to required standards.
• Investigate recurring equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive measures.
• Collaborate with reliability engineers to address bad actors and improve maintenance strategies.
• Work with Maintenance Planning to scope, schedule and resource work orders.
• Supervise contractors, OEMs and specialist service providers, ensuring safety and quality compliance.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and resource planning for the maintenance function.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within an industrial processing environment.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage foremen and multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities for complex equipment failures.
• Solid understanding of reliability engineering, shutdown planning and maintenance budgeting.
• Knowledge of statutory requirements, engineering standards and safe work systems.
