Lecturer in Atmospheric Sciences

About the role

The University seeks a qualified Lecturer in Atmospheric Sciences to join the BIUST campus in Palapye. The role involves delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, contributing to curriculum development, and advancing research in atmospheric science. The successful candidate will be appointed on a pensionable or fixed‑term contract and will contribute to the university’s research agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and tutorials in Atmospheric Sciences at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Develop and update curriculum and course materials in the discipline.
• Conduct independent research and collaborate on funded projects.
• Supervise teaching assistants, technicians, and student research projects.
• Seek and secure research funding from national and international donors.

Required profile

• PhD in Atmospheric Sciences, Atmospheric Physics, or Meteorology from a recognized institution.
• Familiarity with the core curriculum in Atmospheric Sciences.
• Higher education teaching qualification or professional recognition (e.g., PG Certificate in teaching) – advantageous.
• At least two years of teaching, lecturing, research, or relevant industry experience.
• Demonstrated research record with a minimum of three publications in Scopus‑indexed journals.
• Evidence of qualification verification by the Botswana Qualifications Authority.
• Registration with the appropriate professional body where applicable.
