Legal Officer

About the role

The Legal Officer will provide day‑to‑day legal and company secretarial support to the bank, delivering legal advice, drafting and reviewing contracts, and ensuring that all documentation is properly signed, recorded and compliant with internal procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advisory support and review, draft, and recommend changes to contracts, agreements and other legal documents.
• Ensure all documentation is properly signed, recorded and linked to relevant bank systems.
• Manage the agreement database, keeping information up‑to‑date and tracking lapse dates for necessary action.
• Perform administrative duties for the Legal Department, including report preparation, dashboard maintenance, filing and meeting diarisation.
• Assist the Legal Manager and Country Head in managing in‑country legal risk and preparing legal opinions.
• Conduct legal research, collate information for risk and litigation progress reports, and maintain registers of contracts and litigation instructions.
• Draft and review contracts up to a threshold of BWP 100,000 and handle resolutions requiring the Company Secretary’s signature.
• Support business units with training on legal risk management and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of commercial law areas relevant to the bank.

Required profile

• Law degree from a recognised institution.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant legal experience.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and diagnostic thinking.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills.
