Senior Mine Planning Engineer

About the role

The Senior Mine Planning Engineer is responsible for delivering short‑term and medium‑term mine schedules, developing Mine Area Designs (MADs) and maintaining a rolling three‑month production plan for an underground operation.

Key responsibilities

• Translate company objectives into detailed MADs, three‑month rolling plans and infrastructure schedules.
• Develop and maintain an integrated production schedule covering development, stoping, service holes, raise bore, diamond drilling and infrastructure.
• Convert the three‑month plan into detailed weekly schedules and sequence activities to optimise production, grade delivery, equipment utilisation and ventilation constraints.
• Ensure compliance with operational schedules for development, slot raises, stope drilling, charging, blasting, mucking and paste backfilling.
• Participate in weekly production meetings, support short‑interval control (SIC) processes and update schedules based on operational feedback.
• Monitor actual performance, analyse deviations in tonnage, development meters, drill‑and‑blast performance and equipment utilisation.
• Produce monthly planning reports with variance analysis, root‑cause identification and corrective actions.
• Develop work‑quality instructions for scheduling activities, train the scheduling team and support business‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of underground mining experience, including at least 5 years in mine planning and scheduling.
• Underground Mining Blasting License and registration with the Engineers Registration Board of Botswana.
• Proven experience managing short‑term production schedules and practical drill‑and‑blast knowledge.
• Experience with long‑hole open stoping design is advantageous.
