Water and Sewage Treatment Operator

About the role

The Water and Sewage Treatment Operator will manage the operation, monitoring and maintenance of water purification and wastewater treatment facilities at the MMG Khoemacau copper mine. The role ensures a continuous supply of potable water and compliant discharge of treated effluent in line with environmental and health regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor water purification systems, reverse osmosis units, chlorination/disinfection units, and sewage treatment facilities.
• Perform routine checks on pressure, flow, chemical dosing and other critical parameters.
• Collect water and effluent samples for quality testing and maintain accurate records.
• Carry out minor maintenance on pumps, blowers, filters, tanks and related infrastructure.
• Identify faults, coordinate repairs with maintenance technicians and ensure timely resolution.
• Clean and flush tanks, filters and pipelines according to schedule.
• Maintain logs of water consumption, chemical usage and discharge volumes.
• Ensure compliance with Department of Water Affairs (DWA) and Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) regulations.

Required profile

• National Trade Test B qualification.
• Minimum of 3 years experience operating water and sewage treatment systems, preferably in an industrial or mining environment.
• Knowledge of reverse osmosis, borehole systems and biological sewage treatment technologies.
• Familiarity with SCADA or similar monitoring systems is an advantage.
