HME Superintendent – Contractor Oversight (Mining Maintenance)

About the role

The HME Superintendent will lead contractor oversight for mining maintenance on a 5‑year fixed‑term basis. You will ensure that all maintenance activities meet OEM standards, safety regulations and production requirements while driving cost efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor contractor compliance with SLA/KPIs (availability, reliability, response times) and verify scope, OEM standards and site requirements.
• Review daily/weekly contractor reports, validate accuracy against site conditions and approve work orders, claims and invoices.
• Ensure planned maintenance and breakdown repairs are executed on schedule and audit tooling and practices.
• Oversee breakdown response, conduct Root Cause Analysis for major failures and track corrective actions.
• Enforce mine safety standards (MQW&M), conduct safety audits and participate in incident investigations.
• Control cost drivers (labour, spares, rework, standby) and support commercial contract reviews.
• Manage contractor training and skills transfer, monitoring competency of expatriate and local artisans.
• Coordinate with operations and planning teams to align maintenance schedules with production targets and oversee shutdown planning.

Required profile

• Trade Certificate (Diesel Mechanic, Auto Electrician or HME Fitter) or NCQF Level 4‑5.
• 7‑10 years of HME maintenance experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or contractor‑management role.
• Supervisory/foreman training is advantageous.
• Strong exposure to contractor‑driven maintenance environments.
• Experience with major OEM fleets (CAT, Komatsu, Sandvik, Epiroc) is essential.
