Regulatory Affairs Manager – Permitting & Stakeholder

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Regulatory Affairs Manager to lead permitting and stakeholder activities for a large utility‑scale solar PV and battery energy storage project in Botswana. You will ensure all environmental, land, statutory and project approvals are secured while fostering strong relationships with government bodies, local communities and project partners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all permitting and regulatory submissions, coordinating licences, statutory approvals and grid‑connection applications.
• Maintain permitting schedules, approval trackers and support land‑access, water‑use and construction‑related approvals.
• Support ESIA processes, monitor compliance with environmental management plans, lender requirements and ESG commitments.
• Develop and execute stakeholder engagement strategies, manage community consultations and address grievances.
• Assist land acquisition, servitude negotiations and coordinate with legal and land consultants.
• Track permitting progress, report risks and develop mitigation measures for social and regulatory issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Law, Public Administration, Engineering or related field.
• Significant experience in renewable energy, power, infrastructure or large‑scale development projects within Southern Africa.
• Proven ability to manage permitting risk, ensure regulatory compliance and engage diverse stakeholders.
