Study Lead

About the role

The Study Lead will coordinate technical research and improvement projects between KCM and partner universities and institutions in Botswana and China. This role drives collaboration, talent development, and the implementation of technology support programmes to enhance mining and processing efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain cooperation with external institutions and universities in Botswana and China.
• Identify and secure technical expertise for operational studies, technical improvements, and cost‑optimization initiatives.
• Lead collaborative technical studies, research initiatives, and improvement projects.
• Support talent identification and development of mining‑related graduates.
• Facilitate KCM participation in Technology Support Program projects, including preparation of work plans, technical documentation, and application materials.
• Lead the initiation, implementation, monitoring, and assessment of study and improvement projects supported by these programmes.
• Prepare study outcome reports, research achievement summaries, and award applications.
• Assist the Integrated Asset Strategy Manager with integrated business planning and technical study projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
• Minimum five years of experience in the mining industry.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and develop work plans for backfill commissioning and operation.
• Strong communication skills for liaising with senior stakeholders across mining, technical services, processing plant and construction teams.

Required skills

• Data analysis tools: Excel, Origin, Python, MATLAB, Power BI.
• Mining and geotechnical software: Deswik, YADE, PFC2D/3D, Vic‑3D, Avizo, Mimics, InSite.
• Rock mechanical testing and advanced technologies such as CT scanning, acoustic emission (AE) monitoring, and digital image correlation (DIC).
