Data Protection & Compliance Specialist

About the role

The Data Protection and Compliance Specialist will lead the implementation, monitoring and maintenance of Sunbet Botswana's compliance framework. This role ensures that personal information is processed lawfully, securely and ethically while supporting regulatory requirements across data privacy, anti‑money laundering, responsible gambling and corporate governance.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and operationalise data protection policies, privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and records of processing activities (ROPA).
• Manage data retention, consent, customer rights requests and privacy incident investigations.
• Act as the day‑to‑day liaison with the Botswana Gambling Authority, Data Protection Commissioner, Financial Intelligence Agency and other regulators.
• Monitor legislative changes and develop compliance programmes for gambling, AML/CFT, responsible gambling and consumer protection.
• Conduct compliance risk assessments, internal audits, maintain registers and monitor key risk indicators.
• Support AML/CFT initiatives including KYC, customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, sanctions screening and suspicious transaction monitoring.
• Coordinate regulatory inspections, investigations, statutory reporting and compliance submissions.

Required profile

• Strong working knowledge of Botswana data protection legislation and privacy principles.
• Experience implementing data protection and information governance frameworks.
• Sound understanding of regulated environments such as betting, gaming or financial services.
• Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, internal audits and maintain compliance registers.
• Experience supporting AML/CFT programmes and interacting with regulatory authorities.
• High integrity, strong analytical and investigative skills, attention to detail and excellent planning and organisational abilities.
