Head of Risk, AML Compliance and Operational Excellence

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Head of Risk, AML Compliance and Operational Excellence to provide strategic leadership across risk management, compliance, financial crime control and operational excellence for Alexforbes Botswana. The role will embed robust risk and compliance practices, strengthen operational controls and ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, group policies and business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain a fit‑for‑purpose risk and compliance framework aligned with regulatory requirements and business strategy.
• Lead AML and Counter‑Financing of Terrorism compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to legislation and driving financial crime prevention.
• Monitor, interpret and implement new legislation, maintain relationships with regulators such as NBFIRA and BURS, and coordinate regulatory enquiries and inspections.
• Develop and oversee corporate governance frameworks, ethical conduct standards and internal control environments.
• Drive operational excellence and Treating Customers Fairly agenda, improving processes, controls and service delivery to enhance customer outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in risk management, compliance, AML/CFT and operational excellence within the financial services sector.
• Strong understanding of Botswana regulatory landscape and ability to engage with regulators.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement risk policies, governance structures and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills to support business units and drive cultural change.
