External Communications Officer

About the role

The External Communications Officer will support MMG Khoemacau’s strategic objectives by developing and executing comprehensive communication plans that enhance both internal and external messaging. This role creates compelling content, manages media relations, and builds positive relationships with stakeholders to showcase the company’s socio‑economic contributions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing and implementing internal and external communication plans to highlight mine achievements and community involvement.
• Monitor media, manage relationships with local and national outlets, and identify opportunities for positive coverage.
• Prepare press releases, media kits, and social‑media content for corporate engagements.
• Contribute to video and photography production for internal and external use.
• Create and manage internal communication channels such as newsletters and notices, including layout design.
• Organise internal events that boost employee morale and workplace culture.
• Engage with local communities and stakeholders to gather feedback and promote sustainability initiatives.
• Provide administrative support, process basic procurement requests, and assist the Communications Advisor with reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of corporate external communications or public relations experience, preferably in mining or resource sectors.
• Excellent written and oral skills in English and Setswana; additional languages are a plus.
• Knowledge of mining industry communication norms, ESG reporting, and local government‑enterprise processes.
• Strong adaptability for crisis communication and quick response to external issues.
