About the role
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is seeking an Animal Health Specialist to support the STOSAR II project in Southern Africa. The role will focus on transboundary animal disease management, market access improvement and the development of digital livestock tools.
Key responsibilities
- Provide overall coordination and management of Component 2 activities related to transboundary animal diseases.
- Support the revamping of the Livestock Information Management System (LIMS) and pilot e‑Veterinary certification processes.
- Facilitate commodity‑based trade and ensure compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) requirements for international markets.
- Collaborate closely with the SADC Livestock Officer, national ministries and other project partners.
- Monitor project milestones, deliverables and reporting under the guidance of the FAO Sub‑regional Coordinator and the STOSAR II Regional Project Coordinator.
Required profile
- Experience in livestock production, animal health and transboundary disease control.
- Proven ability to manage multi‑stakeholder projects at regional and national levels.
- Familiarity with SPS standards, market access mechanisms and livestock data systems.
- Strong analytical and coordination skills, with the capacity to work under supervision of senior FAO officials.
