Safety Officer – Lifting

About the role

The Safety Officer (Lifting) is responsible for overseeing daily lifting operations, ensuring equipment compliance and maintaining zero‑incident performance on both critical and routine lifts.

Key responsibilities

• Review and verify Method Statements, Safe Work Procedures and Lifting Plans before each operation.
• Conduct pre‑operational inspections, confirming valid third‑party inspection certificates and daily operator check‑sheets.
• Control exclusion zones, enforce drop‑zone barricades and verify ground stability and overhead clearances.
• Lead pre‑lift toolbox talks with riggers, signalmen and crane operators, monitoring load limits against SWL charts.
• Investigate near‑misses, perform HSE audits and maintain lifting register logs.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
• Appointed Person (AP) certification (14.1 MQWMR) and a Lifting Supervisor Certificate.
• Minimum five years of construction HSE experience focused on heavy lifting, crane operations and steel erection.
• Proven knowledge of rigging hardware, load‑chart interpretation and ground bearing pressure evaluation.
