Chief Estimator – Civil Engineering & Mining Projects

About the role

The Chief Estimator leads the Estimating Department, ensuring the delivery of commercially competitive, technically accurate tenders for large‑scale civil engineering projects and driving market entry into the mining sector.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and quality governance for the estimating function.
• Identify and originate mining‑sector opportunities, managing pre‑qualification for major mining houses.
• Develop senior‑level tender strategies and oversee submission of complex bids.
• Conduct risk analysis and implement commercial mitigation measures.

Required profile

• B.Sc or B.Tech in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management.
• Professional registration with SACQSP or ECSA is highly preferred.
• Minimum 20 years total experience in civil engineering construction, including at least 10 years as Lead/Chief Estimator handling tenders of R500 million to R2 billion+.
• 5‑7 years proven experience estimating and winning mining‑related civil construction projects.
• Extensive knowledge of South African and SADC construction markets.

Required skills

• Expert‑level proficiency in RIB CCS (Candy) software.
• Deep understanding of earthworks, concrete, and infrastructure production rates.
• Strong knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and its cost implications.
• Ability to produce executive‑ready tender summary reports.
