Rangeland Stewardship GIS Technician

About the role

The Rangeland Stewardship GIS Technician will support landscape‑scale rangeland restoration and sustainable livestock management in Botswana. The role involves collecting, validating, processing, analysing and reporting spatial and non‑spatial data through the Rangeland Stewardship Information Portal.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, review and upload daily, weekly and monthly field reports, ensuring data completeness, accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain GIS databases, produce maps of restoration sites, grazing areas, boreholes and other interventions, and support monitoring using satellite imagery.
• Generate regular reports and dashboards for district and project management, and assist in donor reporting.
• Participate in field visits to verify activities, collect GPS coordinates, photographs and observations.
• Provide technical support and training to government officers, field teams and extension officers on the RSIP platform.

Required profile

• Up to 2 years of experience in GIS, environmental monitoring or natural resource management.
• Experience working with communal livestock farmers and local partners in Botswana.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary, fast‑changing environments.
• Demonstrated facilitation and supervisory abilities.

Required skills

• Practical experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online or QGIS.
• Proficiency in GPS data collection and field surveys.
• Ability to manage geospatial databases and produce spatial analysis products.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and digital data collection platforms.
