Veterinary Technician – Field Vaccination & Herd Health

About the role

The Veterinary Technician will support Conservation International’s ecosystem‑based adaptation project in Botswana by delivering vaccination and herd‑health programmes across Maun, Tshane and Bobonong. Working closely with farmer committees, extension staff and national Veterinary Services, the role aims to improve animal health, enhance disease surveillance and contribute to climate‑resilient rangeland restoration.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and execute vaccination campaigns in line with national veterinary policies and the Commodity‑Based Trade (CBT) Strategy.
• Maintain cold‑chain integrity, handle vaccines safely and record all administrations accurately.
• Deliver herd‑health programmes, conduct routine animal health assessments and advise farmers on preventive measures.
• Support diagnosis, reporting and management of livestock diseases.
• Promote best practices in biosecurity and animal welfare among farmer groups.

Required profile

• Ability to follow national veterinary regulations and CBT protocols.
• Strong record‑keeping skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to travel to remote field sites and work with diverse farmer communities.
• Commitment to the project’s climate‑resilience and rangeland restoration goals.
