Accounting Intern

About the role

Join Botsbiz Advisors in Gaborone as an Accounting Intern and gain practical experience in core accounting functions for small and medium‑sized enterprises. You will work on‑site with our finance team, supporting the preparation of financial records and learning the fundamentals of tax and compliance within a dynamic consultancy environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review basic financial records and assist in drafting financial statements.
• Post journal entries and capture transactions using accounting software.
• Reconcile accounts, organize source documents, and support routine bookkeeping tasks.
• Conduct variance checks, simple financial analysis, and data validation.
• Assist the team with tax, compliance, and advisory processes relevant to Botswana SMEs.

Required profile

• Foundational knowledge of finance and accounting principles.
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field.
• Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy and ability to follow structured processes and deadlines.
• High ethical standards, reliability and a collaborative mindset.
• Interest in SME advisory, compliance and the Botswana business environment is a plus.

Required skills

• Experience or training with accounting software and journal entries.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic office productivity tools.
• Analytical ability to interpret financial data and identify discrepancies.
• Willingness to learn new digital systems.
