Actuarial Specialist – Short-Term Insurance

About the role

The Actuarial Specialist will support Old Mutual's Short‑Term Insurance business by analysing data, providing performance insights and delivering data‑driven solutions that align with business plans.

Key responsibilities

• Support pricing reviews, product enhancements and rating analysis; build and review actuarial models for pricing adequacy.
• Perform monthly roll‑forward and quarterly reserve valuations, including OCR and IBNR analyses.
• Prepare valuation, risk, capital and reinsurance reports; assist with Earnings at Risk, SAM and ORSA calculations.
• Analyse reinsurance adequacy, structure and competitor placements; optimise facultative reinsurance decisions.
• Review profitability of business lines against budgets and strategic targets; interpret financial and operational results.
• Conduct detailed data quality checks, investigate variances and develop dashboards, KPI reports and analytical tools.
• Monitor actuarial model performance, support validation, testing and documentation, and maintain model governance.
• Provide actuarial, risk and commercial input to management and support regulatory/board reporting.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of relevant experience, preferably in financial services.
• Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or a related field.
• Progress toward a recognised actuarial qualification (ASSA, IFoA, SOA, etc.).
• Certificate of Proficiency in Short‑Term Insurance.
• P&C insurance experience required; IFRS 17 experience preferred.
