Assistant Financial Controller

About the role

AVANI Hotels & Resorts is looking for a detail‑oriented Assistant Financial Controller to join its finance team in Gaborone. Working closely with the Financial Controller and senior management, you will help drive financial excellence, strengthen internal controls, and support strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing and executing the organization’s financial strategy and operational performance initiatives.
• Prepare, review, analyze and present comprehensive management and statutory financial reports.
• Establish, implement and continuously improve internal control frameworks.
• Mentor and manage finance team members, providing coaching and performance feedback.
• Oversee budget development, monitoring, variance analysis and provide actionable insights.
• Manage cash‑flow forecasting, liquidity analysis and working‑capital optimisation.
• Ensure compliance with Botswana tax regulations, accounting standards and corporate governance.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and external stakeholders to resolve financial issues and drive process improvements.
• Support capital‑expenditure reviews and financial due‑diligence activities.
• Maintain and optimise financial systems and stay current with emerging technologies.

Required profile

• Accredited professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years of progressive managerial experience in finance or accounting.
• Strong technical knowledge of accounting, finance, taxation and internal control frameworks.
• Proven team‑leadership and mentoring abilities.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
