Accountant (Short Term Insurance)

About the role

Old Mutual is looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Accountant to manage its financial records and oversee accounting operations for its Short Term insurance business. The role sits in the finance function and supports the Group Finance Manager (GFM) and the Actuary (AFM). Experience in short term insurance is vital.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations and accounting transactions.
• Monitor and manage investment performance, providing analysis and recommendations to optimise returns.
• Support monthly, quarterly and annual reporting according to IFRS 17, and prepare financial statements and management accounts with the AFM.
• Support quarterly and annual regulatory returns and respond to ad hoc regulatory information requests.
• Ensure timely and accurate submission of all tax-related submissions.
• Support budgeting and forecasting, including variance analysis, and manage cash flow so the business has enough liquidity.
• Reconcile all trial balance balances on time and accurately, and carry out ad hoc instructions from the GFM and AFM.
• Prepare management accounts and support internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Degree in Finance or Accounting and partly qualified Accountant (BAcc or Bachelor of Finance required).
• Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in Short-Term Insurance preferred.
• At least 3 years' previous work experience in another financial role.
• Short term insurance experience preferred.

Required skills

• Knowledge and experience of IFRS 17.
• Proficiency in Excel.
• Analytical skills, report writing and ability to interpret complex financial data.
• Client or stakeholder management.
