Accounts Officer – Treasury, General Accounting & Tax

About the role

The Accounts Officer will manage a wide range of financial functions, including treasury operations, general accounting, debtor management, and tax compliance with a focus on Withholding Tax. This hands‑on position is ideal for a detail‑oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Process and reconcile bank transactions; prepare daily/weekly reconciliations.
• Liaise with banks on transactions, queries, and documentation.
• Perform monthly balance‑sheet reconciliations for bank, debtors, inventory, and fuel.
• Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate general‑ledger records.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end closing procedures.
• Maintain and update the debtor ledger; issue statements and follow up on outstanding balances.
• Prepare and raise customer invoices; reconcile debtor accounts and resolve billing discrepancies.
• Prepare aged debtor reports and escalate overdue accounts.
• Compute, deduct, and remit Withholding Tax in line with Botswana tax laws.
• Maintain WHT schedules, supporting documentation, and file WHT returns with BURS.

Required profile

• Diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar accounting role.
• Professional registration with the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) is mandatory.
• Solid knowledge of accounting principles, IFRS basics, and Botswana tax basics.

Required skills

• Experience with accounting software such as Pastel, Sage, QuickBooks or SAP.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
