Chief Technology & Information Officer (CTIO)

About the role

Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC), a listed company on the Botswana Stock Exchange, is looking for an internationally experienced Chief Technology & Information Officer (CTIO) to join its Executive Team. The role provides strategic leadership of the organisation's technology, network and IT agenda, shaping and executing its technology strategy and building the infrastructure, platforms and capabilities needed for the next generation of telecommunications and digital services.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute an integrated technology, network and IT strategy aligned with BTC's growth and digital transformation ambitions.
• Lead the design, deployment and evolution of fixed, mobile, broadband and data infrastructure, including the move to next-generation technologies.
• Drive modernisation of enterprise IT, OSS/BSS, cloud and digital platforms to improve agility, customer experience and efficiency.
• Ensure world-class network and IT availability, performance, scalability and quality of service.
• Provide executive oversight of cybersecurity, technology risk, business continuity and disaster recovery.
• Identify and leverage emerging technologies such as 5G, IoT, cloud, automation and software-defined technologies.
• Oversight of technology CAPEX and OPEX, ensuring disciplined investment and measurable returns.
• Maintain technology governance, architecture, controls and regulatory compliance.
• Build relationships with global technology partners and vendors, and lead and develop technology, network, IT and security teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline; a Master's, MBA or equivalent is an added advantage.
• At least 12 years of progressive experience in telecommunications and/or a complex technology-intensive environment, with significant senior or executive-level experience.
• Demonstrable experience leading large-scale infrastructure, network modernisation and/or enterprise IT transformation programmes.
• Experience in a highly regulated, commercially driven telecommunications environment.

Required skills

• Strong technical understanding of mobile and fixed networks, cloud technologies, cybersecurity and digital platforms.
• Ability to turn emerging technologies into commercial value and customer experience.
