Farmer Facilitation Lead

About the role
The Farmer Facilitation Lead (FFL) will be based in Tshane, Botswana and report to the Landscape Manager of the “Ecosystem‑Based Adaptation and Mitigation in Botswana’s Communal Rangelands” project. The role focuses on coordinating farmer and community participation, overseeing rangeland and livestock management activities, and ensuring effective delivery of project objectives across 104 villages.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison between the project team and farming communities to secure buy‑in, ownership and active participation.
- Guide and support Farmer Facilitation Teams (FFTs) in implementing the Herding for Health (H4H) model at the cluster level.
- Facilitate negotiation and signing of Grazing Area and Rangeland Stewardship Agreements (RSAs) with local stakeholders.
- Identify, mediate and resolve any conflicts arising from project activities in a respectful manner.
- Schedule and lead regular stakeholder meetings and coordinate site visits for project staff and partners.
- Monitor and report on animal husbandry practices, rangeland restoration progress and equipment maintenance.
- Assist the Landscape Manager with data collection, monitoring, evaluation and reporting requirements.
Required profile
- Proven experience working with rural farming communities and livestock systems.
- Strong understanding of rangeland management and ecosystem‑based adaptation concepts.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with ability to build trust across diverse groups.
- Willingness to travel frequently across the Ngamiland, Kgalagadi and Bobirwa project areas.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
