Head of Operations

About the role

FSG Services, a subsidiary of FSG Limited and Botswana's leading funeral service provider with 23 branches nationwide and a significant presence in South Africa and Zambia, is looking for a Head of Operations based in Gaborone. The role leads the funeral services branch network, fleet and mortuary operations, coffin, casket and tombstone manufacturing and private cemetery operations, turning business priorities into efficient, cost-managed and dignified service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an integrated operational strategy supporting business growth and service excellence.
• Lead branch, funeral service and private cemetery operations with consistent standards and responsive service.
• Optimise fleet, mortuary, facility and equipment availability through maintenance and control of vehicle usage, fuel consumption and expenditure.
• Oversee coffin, casket and tombstone manufacturing, aligning production, procurement, inventory and distribution with branch demand and quality standards.
• Prepare and manage the annual operations budget, strengthen cost controls and improve productivity.
• Strengthen operational systems and reporting, using performance data to improve processes and inform management decisions.
• Build, lead and develop teams through accountability, coaching, performance reviews and succession planning.
• Ensure compliance with quality, health and safety, environmental and legal requirements, manage operational risks and resolve audit findings.
• Collaborate with executive leadership on business planning, expansion and new operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering or a related field; an MBA or equivalent is an added advantage.
• At least 10 years' operations management experience, including at least 5 years at senior management level in a multi-site service environment.
• Demonstrated experience in fleet and asset management, manufacturing or production planning, procurement and inventory management is essential.
• Experience in funeral services, insurance, healthcare, logistics or FMCG, and regional or multi-country exposure, is an added advantage.
• A valid driver's licence.
