Senior Database Geologist

About the role

The Senior Database Geologist leads the management, validation, quality assurance and integrity of geological data and databases, so that accurate, secure and timely geological information supports resource definition, grade control, resource modelling and mine planning. The role works closely with production, resource, exploration and project geologists.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the integrity, accuracy, completeness and security of geological databases through management, validation and quality control.
• Capture, validate and integrate drilling, logging, sampling, assay, survey and other datasets into the database.
• Maintain database standards, validation rules and data governance protocols, and manage drillhole data (collar, survey, lithology, alteration, mineralisation, geotechnical, sampling and assay).
• Manage receipt, validation and loading of laboratory assay results, ensuring QAQC requirements are completed, monitored and reported on time.
• Audit databases regularly, resolve data quality issues and maintain version and change control.
• Provide validated datasets and extracts for grade control, resource estimation, reconciliation, mine planning and technical studies.
• Monitor sampling and assay QAQC systems (standards, blanks, duplicates, lab performance) and liaise with laboratories on turnaround times and discrepancies.
• Mentor Database Geologists and provide quality oversight; develop routine reports and dashboards on drilling, sampling, assay and QAQC.
• Support mineral resource estimation and reporting, and drive automation of data workflows.
• Ensure compliance with company standards, the JORC Code, NI 43-101 and industry best practice.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Geology or a related field.
• At least 5 years of postgraduate experience in the mining industry.
• Sound knowledge of geological sampling and QAQC principles, and of data collection, validation, storage, security and traceability.

Required skills

• Geological database management systems (Micromine Geobank Database) and data validation, auditing, querying, extraction and reporting.
• Microsoft SQL (querying, extraction, cleaning, validation, troubleshooting).
• Leapfrog, Datamine, Vulcan and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• GIS packages such as QGIS, ArcGIS and MapInfo for geological plans and spatial data.
