Independent Non-Executive HR Director (Board)

About the role

An Independent Non-Executive HR Director will join the Board of a leading financial services group operating across Botswana and several neighbouring markets. The role provides independent oversight, strategic guidance and specialist insight on human capital, remuneration and ESG matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent oversight and constructive challenge on strategy, risk and performance.
• Represent the Board on committees aligned with Human Capital, Remuneration and ESG expertise.
• Offer specialist input into strategic transformation initiatives.
• Engage with regulators and key stakeholders as required.
• Uphold governance, ethics and fiduciary standards across the organisation.

Required profile

• Senior executive banking background with hands‑on experience in all aspects of Human Capital and the ability to align HR strategy with business objectives.
• Expertise in Human Capital and Remuneration, including executive reward governance, talent and succession planning, and organisational culture transformation, with ESG and sustainability experience.
• Proven track record in digital transformation and implementation of Human Capital application systems.
• Decisive, strategic thinker comfortable making high‑stakes decisions under Board‑level pressure.
• Strong understanding of corporate governance, fiduciary duties and best‑practice Human Capital standards.
• Prior Board or Human Capital sub‑committee experience, preferably within a regulated financial institution.
• Citizenship or work experience in South Africa, Namibia or Mozambique is an advantage.
