Accountant – Short Term Insurance

About the role

Old Mutual is seeking a detail‑oriented Accountant to support its short‑term insurance business. The role involves managing financial records, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing insights that drive strategic decisions. This is a three‑year fixed‑term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare management accounts and lead the group financial reporting process, including annual year‑end and interim reporting.
• Compile quarterly and annual regulatory returns and respond to ad‑hoc finance‑related regulatory requests.
• Monitor company solvency against targets and regulatory thresholds.
• Ensure timely submission and accurate computation of tax returns.
• Develop, monitor and update annual budgets and forecasts, reinforcing budget policies and controls.
• Manage cash flow to maintain sufficient liquidity for operational expenses.
• Perform timely reconciliations of all trial‑balance items.
• Execute ad‑hoc tasks assigned by the Group Finance Manager or Assistant Finance Manager.

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting & Finance or a related field.
• Professional qualification such as Chartered Accountant or partially qualified accountant.
• Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in Short‑Term Insurance.
• Minimum five years of experience in a financial role, preferably within short‑term insurance.
• Hands‑on experience with the IFRS 17 standard.
• Strong understanding of accounting concepts, financial reporting standards and best practices.
