Database Geologist – Exploration Data Management

About the role

The Database Geologist will ensure the security, integrity and accessibility of all exploration data, supporting geological modelling and mineral resource estimation. This role combines geoscience expertise with data management to deliver high‑quality datasets for the mining team.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain data integrity by applying QA/QC standards to all geological and geotechnical data.
• Upload collar, downhole, sample, assay, and geotechnical data into the Geobank database following QA/QC procedures.
• Audit drill‑hole data and validate new entries, focusing on attributes critical for modelling and mine planning.
• Manipulate and extract data using SQL scripting.
• Maintain sample ledger books and ensure accurate data capture.
• Conduct internal process and laboratory audits to meet company and industry standards.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly QA/QC reports.
• Liaise with analytical labs and transport providers for sample tracking and analysis.
• Configure and support exploration software (Geobank, Leapfrog, MapInfo, IoGas, ArcGIS, QGIS).
• Manage document filing, archiving and electronic reporting for the exploration department.
• Backup and restore databases within defined timeframes.
• Assist SHEC compliance monitoring by providing relevant data and reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology (B.Sc.).
• Minimum five years of post‑graduate experience in exploration data management.
• Proven experience with geological modelling and data‑management software.
• Strong understanding of QA/QC procedures for exploration datasets.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
