Ventilation Officer

About the role

The Ventilation Officer will lead the design, installation, and maintenance of ventilation systems for underground hard‑rock mining projects. This position provides technical and operational support, monitors air quality, conducts risk assessments, and ensures statutory compliance while developing emergency preparedness plans.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct ventilation surveys, inspections, monitoring and produce detailed reports.
• Plan fan and duct installations and contribute to three‑monthly rolling schedule planning.
• Support Ventsim modelling and ventilation design activities.
• Ensure compliance with statutory ventilation requirements and manage gas monitoring and emergency response as the site subject‑matter expert.
• Coordinate procurement of ventilation‑related equipment and materials.
• Establish and maintain ventilation management systems and processes.
• Lead, mentor and develop a team of three ventilation technicians.
• Provide training for local ventilation personnel.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience in a ventilation role within underground hard‑rock mining.
• Recognised Ventilation Officer qualification meeting Botswana statutory requirements.
• Experience working in multicultural environments.
• Valid driver’s licence and current First Aid & CPR certification.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Ventsim software.
• Advanced Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint skills.
• Desirable experience with Deswik and Power BI.
