National Economic Specialist (Botswana)

About the role

The UNDP Office in Botswana is seeking a National Economic Specialist to lead the coordination of support for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP). The role will bridge UNDP expertise with government, private sector and civil‑society partners to drive inclusive, diversified and digitally enabled growth.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate UNDP’s country programme activities related to economic development and SDG implementation.
• Conduct macro‑economic analysis, sector assessments and policy reviews to inform the BETP and the Twelfth National Development Plan.
• Monitor and report on SDG indicators, economic diversification, employment and digital innovation metrics.
• Facilitate multi‑stakeholder partnerships, including government ministries, private enterprises, youth and women organisations.
• Prepare evidence‑based policy briefs, technical reports and communication materials for national and international audiences.
• Support capacity‑building initiatives for government officials and local partners.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Economics, Development Studies or a related field.
• Proven experience in macro‑economic analysis, policy design and implementation of development programmes.
• Strong knowledge of Botswana’s economic context, SDG frameworks and public‑private partnership models.
• Experience working with multilateral organisations or government agencies is highly desirable.
• Excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills in English.
